Poetry Nights Majlis – Hall 8
This session highlights two of the most prominent forms of Gulf folk arts: Al-Azi and Al-Mankous, as deeply rooted cultural heritage that reflects the identity and collective spirit of the region.
The discussion will explore the historical and social dimensions of these two arts, their performance methods, and their significance in national and social events. Emphasis will be placed on the importance of preserving folk heritage as a means of safeguarding the Emirati identity and its artistic and cultural legacy.

Poet
Bakheet Al Muhri is a prominent Emirati poet and performer specializing in folk arts, particularly Al-Shallat and Al-Tughrooda, two of the most notable forms of oral heritage in the United Arab Emirates. His star rose after winning the title of Ra’ee Al-Shallat in the first season of the program in 2018, which aimed to discover talents in folk performances such as Al-Wana, Al-Azi, Al-Radhaa, and others.
Bakheet Al Muhri is known for his powerful voice and authentic style in performing Al-Shallat, and he has participated in numerous heritage evenings and festivals both within the UAE and abroad, presenting performances that reflect the Bedouin spirit and the Emirati environment. He has also appeared on several media programs focusing on preserving and promoting folk heritage, where he provided live explanations and performances of Al-Tughrooda and Al-Azi, making him one of the prominent figures in this field.
Through his work, Bakheet Al Muhri aims to preserve the Emirati identity and enhance the presence of folk arts in contemporary cultural memory.

Al Shehi has participated in many poetic evenings and cultural festivals inside and outside the UAE, performing live presentations of his poems that reflect Bedouin life and the region’s history. He has also appeared on several television programs specializing in folk poetry, where he gave the audience a chance to interact with his creative works.
